The project

Stories open new perspectives

MangaStore was born with the ambition of becoming a meeting place for people who recognise comics, manga and their worlds as a form of art and culture. We bring the pleasure of discovery together with a desire to understand stories: how they take shape, the contexts they come from and why they continue to speak to us.

Peoples’ expressions, people’s voices

Drawing and storytelling carry languages, memories, sensibilities and ways of life. A work may preserve traditions, transform them or question them. No culture speaks with just one voice: authors, readers and communities offer different perspectives even within the same country. We explore these connections without reducing a people to its best-known characters or images.

Imagination and transcendence

Fantasy lets us look beyond everyday life and ask about what exceeds us: the meaning of existence, destiny, the sacred, and our relationship with nature and other people. Transcendence can take spiritual, symbolic or deeply human forms. Stories provide a space in which to encounter these questions, leaving everyone free to interpret them.

Identity, ideals and social life

Heroes and imperfect characters confront us with choices, conflicts and responsibilities. Through them, we can explore ideas of justice, belonging, freedom and living together. Each work expresses a particular vision: reading it in context helps us recognise its questions, tensions and limits, without attributing the same lesson to every story.

A dialogue between generations

Stories encountered in childhood can help shape our thinking and ideals, gain new meanings through experience and become opportunities for discussion. A shared comic, a character brought to life in conversation or an object kept over the years can connect memories with new discoveries. Creativity renews this inheritance: each generation receives, interprets and imagines in turn.

Telling stories, illustrating, playing

Words, images and play offer different ways to take part in a narrative world. A comic panel invites us to observe; a story, to follow a point of view; a game, to explore rules, possibilities and relationships. Collecting can also become a way to learn about illustration, design and the techniques through which a story takes shape.

Education and attention to context

Works can offer opportunities to talk about respect, caring for objects, customs and behaviour in different social settings. This educational potential grows through discussion and critical reading: it calls for attention to the age, the content and the sensitivities of those taking part. Not every work is intended for the same audience, and no story replaces dialogue with the people who guide a child’s education.

Cultures in relation

In an interconnected world, translations, encounters and shared passions create paths between distant experiences. We want to encourage respectful curiosity: recognising where works come from, listening to different interpretations and making room for discussion. The catalogue and Journal are the places through which we intend to develop this journey, one story at a time.
